Welcome
to Orleans Habitat for Humanity, Inc.
working in Orleans County, NY
We are a 100%
volunteer, official affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International
established in the summer of 1992 with stated mission of building
one house per year to help alleviate inadequate housing in Orleans
County, one of the poorest counties in New York State.
Since
that time we have successfuly completed eleven homes for eleven
families, and we're currently planning our 12th home.
Habitat "homeowner partners" work side-by-side with local volunteers
to complete 300 hours of "sweat-equity" before moving into their
new homes. After moving in, the homeowners begin payments on his/her
mortgage and taxes with a no-interest loan from Orleans Habitat
for Humanity, Inc. The mortgage money is then used to build more
Habitat homes.
We also support Habitat for Humanity International in their efforts
to alleviate sub-standard housing in other countries. As of 2008
our annual tithe to HFHI has built 9 homes in other countries.
We're
building again! House 12 has started at 644 East State St. in Albion.
