Habitat
"homeowner partners" work side-by-side with local volunteers to
complete 400 hours of "sweat-equity" before moving into their new
homes. After moving in, the homeowners begin payments on his/her
mortgage and taxes with a no-interest loan from Orleans Habitat
for Humanity, Inc. The mortgage money is then used to build more
Habitat homes.
We intend to build a new home at least every two years in our effort
to continue Habitat for Humanity International's intention to "eradicate
substandard housing throughout the world." We know of no other organization
directly addressing that need.
We are a religious-based, non-denominational non-profit organization
and the only non-governmental group, with representation throughout
Orleans County. We have no paid staff. Our success in building homes
for people who could not otherwise afford them is due to the cooperation
of numerous individuals, businesses, and churches supporting us
through donations of time, money, and other resources.
There are many ways you can donate to Orleans Habitat for Humanity.
We are always in need of volunteer staff, building supplies, financial
donations, and other donations of time and/or money. Please visit
our donations page for more information, or contact us today for
more information.
